Cal Starr CAL STARR was born in Chicago, IL but grew up on a small farm in Kentucky. He was taught a few chords on the guitar by his father and began to develop a love of music. This led to him entering and winning a talent contest with Bob Parsons, a highschool friend. His first performance was on a live radio show in Huntington, WVA.. During the early years that followed he worked as a disk jockey on KEBE radio in Jacksonville, TX and had his own program on KFLA TV in Shreveport, LA. He eventually moved back to the windy city of Chicago to pursue his love for music and the world of entertainment. Good fortune came his way when his agent booked him into the prestigious original "Key Club", which was located off the magnificent mile in downtown Chicago. This is where he was discovered by a Mr. Ziegler with the Albert Pick Hotel Corp. He hired him to entertain at the Nationwide Inn in Columbus, OH. This was the same town where Cal would go on to produce his first country concert, starring none other than the great Marty Robbins. Many more concerts followed with major stars such as Earnest Tubb, Loretta Lynn, Waylon Jennings and Billy Grammer, just to name a few. During a recent visit to Branson, MO Cal met Roy Rogers Jr. and his band the "High Riders". Dom Calvano the band leader produced Cal's latest CD "Born to the Saddle", consisting of 14 songs of the old west, including five original songs that Cal wrote with Arnold Rogers of Nashville.
Recording this CD has been Cal's life long dream. He has always loved western songs and old cowboy movies from bygone days of the silver screen. Cal believes in hard work and God given opportunities and is very thankful for all the ones given him and is also humble and thankful for the many folks who have supported him throughout the years. I am sure you will be richly rewarded as you listen to his music. Someone once said, if life is like good music, than love must be like the songs we sing.
